Time to get even. Seek out the rich scholar who's promised to help you with your map, and confront him with the pirate leader's accusations.

Go back to your nation's starting town to the same location where you started off this storyline (in A Man of Wealth and Taste) and confront the rich man in his house. He is a level 10 Boss. After some talk, he will turn hostile and you have to defeat him in a swashbuckling duel.
