[edit] Key Policies

The following policies are key to productive editing:

1. PotBSWiki is an encyclopaedia. It is not a forum, nor is it a soapbox for discussing information (excepting the discussion pages). It is not a free web space provider; for free wiki hosting, we suggest Wikia. It is also not a place for advertising.
2. Avoid bias. Articles should be written from a neutral point of view, representing differing views on a subject factually and objectively.
3. Respect other contributors. PotBSWiki contributors come from many different countries and cultures and have widely different views. Treating others with respect is key to collaborating effectively in building an encyclopaedia.
4. Use third person. Just like the articles you would find in an encyclopaedia, the articles here should be written in the third person (he, she, they) rather than first person (I, we). The only exception is for quoted material (e.g. a Societies statement).

Here's a few that you should keep in mind. It will help us be more consistent and/or improve the wiki use:

1. Naming When creating new wiki pages. The standard naming is to capitalize the first letter of the article and use lower case for the rest. The only exception to this rule is that we use ingame names for items. When possible, try and match the name as closely to its in-game name. The 'type' of the item (Oak, ...) is placed behind the item's name. There is a page for each 'type'. Add the newly add item to the list on the related type-page. Example, Logs, Oak would also have Logs and Oak.
2. Templates There are several templates. If there's a template that exist for the type of wiki pages, please use them. It'll help to keep the information uniform and easy to find. For example if you're adding a new ship, use the Ship Template
3. Image Use Any updates to PotBSWiki, please keep such images small. Also it must conform to copyrights. If you require any images to be large, please use alternative hosting.
4. Copyrights If you upload other people works, you must make sure you gain permission from the owner.
5. User pages You may add information on here, this is to be strictly related to potbs. Such as your characters. Theses pages are "User:Username" (Changing Username to your name, for example, AdTheRat's User page would be User:AdTheRat and Mopster's would be User:Mopster
6. Suitable Contents There are many thing you can do with this wiki. Such, you could create a Societies page, add information on a ship, tactics, or guides and how-to. However, what is not suitable is pages that do not belong here (a page about some other games) and pages that not bias or debate causing. Such pages will be Deleted.
