[edit] Mission Notes

Your businessman associate has another trouble-shooting job for you. This time, you have to re-negotiate a deal that's in danger of falling apart. It seems an unknown third party is trying to sabotage the talks, but that is a problem for another day. For now, you need to talk to each of the businessmen involved and try to salvage the agreement.

This mission has you run around to various ports and talk to some NPCs. There are multiple outcomes, based on which conversation options you choose. Among the possibilities are that the shipwright may agree to offer the farmer the same deal on tools, he may cut split the deal between the other two contacts so that the one who lost half the deal demands monetary compensation, or the deal may be unchanged, and the farmer who was left out requires monetary compensation. This doesn't seem to have any effect beyond changing the flavor text.

After negotiating with the first of the three contacts, three Dutch thugs are waiting for you when you board your ship. Defeat them to continue.

[edit] List of NPC's to negotiate with

[edit] Step-by-Step [British] (Spoiler)

I have only spoken to a couple of the NPC's

[edit] How should I approach Alvar Tarnsworth?

Tarnsworth didn't agree to the deal until Fosbrooke cutr the side deal for tools, saws and the like -- which I should have known, or at least suspected, but did not because I've just been too distracted with other matters. If you can help it, try not to change the side deal, if he feels he's being double-crossed he may drop out of the deal altogether. You must not allow that to happen. If you do find yourself in a situation where you have to change his side deal, you may end up having to give him extra doubloons yourself. Try to avoid that, it's bad form.

[edit] How should I deal with Manton Pratt?

Pratt is rightfully annoyed that he's being left out in the cold on this deal. I've found that the best way to handle that fellow is to empathize with him -- see things from his point of view, or at least make him think you do. He's one of those salt-of-the-earth types, and doesn't like to think he's being pushed around by a slick merchant.

[edit] What's the best way to handle Maxwell Fosbrooke?

Fosbrooke is dangerous, because he's been at this a while. He is, frankly, almost as good a negotiator as me. Treat him like you would a strange dog -- be aggressive, be loud, and don't back down. If you do, he'll think he's got the upper hand, and he'll never come around to your way of thinking. At then same time though, do not act overly provocative or thuggish. Insulting a man's pride is never a good way to get what you want. Just don't let him push you around, and he'll respect you enough to hear you out.

[edit] Additional Notes

  • The spanish version of this mission is reported bugged as of version 1.19.57.0 - sometimes you will get the british NPCs in the mission instances instead of the correct spanish ones. This is a known but not very high-priority bug, as it doesn't prevent you from finishing the mission in any way (it's more of a immersion problem).
