Founded at Gresham College, London on the 28th November 1660, King Charles II was the patron. It laid the foundation for many branches of science, including archaeology, biology and physics. Sir Isaac Newton's Principa Mathematica was publsihed by the Royal Society, the British Museum is largely made up of the private collections of former members, and established the Copley Medal (the forerunner to the Nobel Prize).

In-game, the BRS is competing against the French Academie Nationale.
