Mission: Foreign Entanglements
Increase the difficulty level and then you will be faced with three ships in this mission, with a high probability of a Stralsund MC.

History

Strategy and Use

An extremely popular PvE ship. When matched against a level 45 to 50 NPC, experience is above 250xp per ship. The 'Stralsund' Mastercraft Frigate is able to sink a level 50 NPC at close range with minimal damage to structure.

Comparable Ships

The 'Raa' Mastercraft Frigate is another popular PvE ship with quick-reloading guns, which has 12.5% less hull integrity (1305) but ~16% greater broadside armour (989) and bow armour (495), and ~15% more stern armour (247) and much higher DPS when used up close. Note however, it has less DR (5 on broadside/2 on bow/stern).

The Raa has a higher broadside damage output at 300 yards and under.

Broadside damage @ range 1 yard vs 0 DR target:

Stralsund MC = 19.7 DPS (damage per second)

5 guns * 26 dmg / 17.4 sec reload + 11 guns * 31 dmg / 27.8 sec = 19.7)

Raa MC = 23.5 DPS (damage per second)

7 guns * 25 dmg / 14.8 sec reload + 11 guns * 29 dmg / 23.5 sec = 25.4)

Damage per gun is very similar (26 v 25, 31 v 30, yet Raa has more guns with quicker reload). Formula for cannon damage decrease with range is on the POTBS website. Raa has significantly more firepower out to approx 250 yards, then the smaller cannon aren't as good; the result being approximate parity at 300 yds (4.08 DPS for Stral MC vs 4.30 DPS for Raa MC; Raa still higher, but damage is negiligible for both ships). This calculation includes standard accuracy vs a defense 32 target. That being said, there is something for larger cannons at 300 due to DR, however as the damage on the NPC increases, the Raa quickly catches up again.

Distinguishing Characteristics

This ship has a 15% faster reload rate than the 'Stralsund' Frigate.
