History

The Mordaunt 4th Rate is based on HMS Mordaunt, originally launched as a privately built and operated armed merchantman in 1681. After Viscount Mordaunt, Earl of Peterborough was unable to pay his crew, the Egnlish Royal Navy took possession of the ship, commissioning it as a 46-gun 4th Rate. Mordaunt participated in a fleet actions against 12 french warships on 4 October, 1689 under the command of Captain John Tyrrell. She was stranded and lost in 1693.
