History

The 'Lyon' Hoy was built in 1709 and was wrecked in 1752. A 'hoy' is a type of small, shallow draft merchant vessel used as a lighter or coastal trader by the English and the Dutch. The term 'hoy' refers to her single mast rig, similar to that of the 'Hiorten' Galeas. This ship was modelled by FLS User Content Ship Committee member Kriswood.

Strategy and Use

An 8-gun, combat capable merchant vessel with good overall sailing performance.

Tactics

This ship is a logical upgrade for the low level Freetrader from the 'Otter' Skuda (Fallback) one starts out with. While the free 'Renard' Chasse-Maree that one earns from the Economy Tutorial is a faster ship the 'Lyon' Hoy carries more and outguns the Renard. In fact it is the equal in guns to the 'Bermuda' Sloop.

Comparable Ships

'Otter' Skuda for capacity and performance, the 'Hiorten' Galeas for appearance.

Distinguishing Characteristics

A fore-and-aft rigged small merchantman.
